A yellow-orange emitting garnet phosphor Mg<sub>2</sub>Y<sub>2</sub>Al<sub>2</sub>Si<sub>2</sub>O<sub>12</sub>:Ce<sup>3+</sup> was prepared through combination substitution, and a high colour rendering index white LED lamp was achieved.
