Abstract

A small, novel, planar bow-tie antenna with rounded edges embedded into a half circular aperture within a conductive frame is investigated in this letter. By rounding the edges of the bow-tie and adjusting the reactive coupling between the bow-tie element and its surrounding conductive frame, an antenna with a -10-dB impedance bandwidth of 11.3:1 (1.15-13 GHz) and an electrical length of 0.13lambda m (lambda m is the maximum wavelength in the operating frequency band) is designed. This paper provides simulated and measured return losses as well as simulated radiation pattern results
