Abstract

In another investigation (1) we have shown that amounts of cortin sufficient to maintain patients with severe Addison's disease have little or no effect on the electrolyte and nitrogen balance of normal human beings. There was still the possibility that very large doses of cortin might effect the balance in normal individuals. Cost makes the use of massive doses almost impossible in balance studies. However, when large doses are used the effect on the excretion of sodium, potassium and chloride is so prompt that balance studies are not required. The immediate effect of large injections of cortin on the renal excretion of sodium, potassium, chloride and total nitrogen is reported in this paper.
