K-Casein, after reduction of the disulfide bond(s) by 2-mereaptoethanol, can be separated from a~-and fi-casein variants, as well as from whole casein, by DEAEcellulose-urea chromatography. When Kcasein is in the reduced form it elutes from DEAE-cellulose at 0.05 ~ NaC1. Use of a reduction step simplifies purification of the major casein components (a~-, fl) by chromatography.
