Conjuring with conjugation: catalysis by ruthenium-allenylidene complexes has been observed for the conversion of tin hydrides into distannanes and dihydrogen. Alkyne or alkene groups (R) in conjugation with an aromatic ring are required for catalytic activity, providing an unusual example of control of metal-centered reactivity by a remote substituent.
