Microwave observations of sea state from aircraft

Abstract

Abstract Measurements of the thermal radiation emitted by natural water surfaces at a wavelength of 1·55 cm have been measured from aircraft at up to 12 km altitude. The dependence of the radiation on surface roughness is studied in view of its possible importance to satellite observation of sea state.
