A Sn-BEA catalyst was synthesized in a fluoride-free medium for the first time <italic>via</italic> a dry gel conversion method. The use of alkali ions, zeolite BEA seed crystals and ion-exchange before the removal of the organic template has been shown to be indispensable to obtain the desired material.
