Abstract

Abstract A scheme of qualitative analysis is presented for the identification of the constituents of polyurethane foam products, or indeed polyurethane‐type materials in general. Elastomeric and cellular polyurethanes are analyzed by hydrolysis to simpler compounds which are then separated and identified. The methods of identification employed include infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, gas chromatography, and thin‐layer chromatography.
