Shape‐Dependent Plasmon‐Resonant Gold Nanoparticles

Abstract

The color and the shape: Rayleigh scattering from gold nanoparticles of discrete shapes, and from anisotropic gold nanorods, is presented (see light-scattering image; inset: TEM image of hexagonal particles. Scale bar=100 nm). The observed trends for shape-dependent light scattering from gold nanoparticles correlate well with those previously reported for analogous silver nanoparticles. In addition, polarized light scattering from gold nanorods is sensitive to their orientation.
