The MAGLEV is a kind of new type high speed train in the world which is levitated and guided over the track using electro magnetic forces. Because the electro magnets are unstable, they have to be controlled. Since 2002 the worldwide first commercial use of such a high speed train based on German technology is running successfully in Shanghai Pudong Airport, P.R.China. In this paper modeling of one vehicle of a high speed MAGLEV train is discussed which considers all controlled electro magnets, the levitation frame, the secondary suspension and the car body. If the vibration mode frequency of a single span guideway is very high compared with the span crossing frequency of the vehicle, the guideway deflection by the weight of the vehicle can be assumed to be quasi static. Optimal linear quadratic control with minimum control energy is used for the controller design for every electro magnet. The simulation results obtained by Matlab/Simulink are presented with given vertical periodic guideway deflections.
