The analysis of changes has become an important use of multi-spectral Landsat TM data. With the repetitive acquisition of imagery, it is possible to determine the types and extent of changes in an environment. Many digital change-detection techniques, such as image overlay, image differencing, and principal component analysis, have been used widely for this purpose. The objective of this study was to detect land cover changes by using the multi-date Landsat TM imagery for the Ikitelli area, Istanbul, Turkey, employing different methods. Each change detection method used was assessed, with its ability to detect specific changes.
