Vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communication has become an increasingly popular topic in the academia as well as in the industry. Due to WiFi's pervasiveness, the idea of setting up 802.11 access points along the road provides a practical solution for providing vehicle-to-infrastructure communication. However, due to the limited transmission range of a single WiFi access point, intermittent connectivity is expected in such an environment. In this paper, we propose a distributed proxy architecture for providing Internet service for V2I communication in such an environment with intermittent connectivity. In addition, we discuss the effect of movement locality on our proposed architecture and provide an empirical evidence of movement locality via the analysis of two different sets of bus traces.
