We report on emergent spiral patterns generated from a predator-prey rule-based au-tomaton model. We discuss some systematic analysis techniques applied to the patterns and hypothesise that their origin lies in a defensive behaviour that arises from the predator-prey interactions. We believe the emergent patterns from this simple model correspond to similar behaviours in real-world situations where two groups interact across opposing fronts such as military formations. 1
