Abstract The kinetics of the crystallization of isotactic polybutene‐1 from the melt and of the transformation of modification 2 to modification 1 are studied by dilatometric measurements. The isotherms of the polymorphous solid‐solid transformation show substantially the same features as those of crystallization. Consequently, the transformation was analyzed in terms of AVRAMI's equation. The exponent n is 3.1 for crystallization, and 3.3 for the solid‐solid transformation. Specific volume vs. temperature results are reported, and the transformation of modification 2 to modification 1 is shown to be actually possible only below the dilatometric isophasic transition at 65°C., specific for modification 2.
