The parallel orientation of two Fe4O2 units results in a unique chainlike, double-butterfly arrangement of the iron–oxo core in 1 (see picture), which is formed by the reaction of neopentanol with [Fe6(μ3-O)(O2CPh)6(H2O)3](O2CPh). This octanuclear iron(III) compound exhibits strong antiferromagnetic coupling.
