Abstract A novel alignment material capable of a pretilt angle around 51° was developed and characterized. Such a high pretilt may find numerous applications in developing new liquid crystal display (LCD) technologies and improving existing technologies. We developed a π‐cell utilizing the high pretilt alignment material, in which the bend director configuration is stable at zero field.
