Abstract

Abstract Pulverised fuel ash has been subjected to X ‐ray examination and chemical analysis and the main mineralogical and physical characteristics have been determined. It is shown that the ash is a very complex material in which the overall chemical composition varies from particle to particle. It is tentatively concluded that there is a positive correlation between pozzolanic activity and glass content. The types of combination of iron present in the ash have been determined and the effect of hydration examined.
