Abstract

Magnesium ferrite of composition Mg 0.993 Fe 2.007 O 4 was quenched from 1000°, 1150°, and 1295°C. The rate of inversion at 450°C was followed by Curie temperature measurements in a thermo‐gravimetric analyzer. The inversion process possessed the features of a nucleation and growth transformation. It is postulated that short range order within the octahedral sub‐lattice plays an important role in cation ordering in Mg ferrite.
