T h e domestic fowl (Gallus domesticz~s) is one of the most widely used of all biological inaterial in assay, immunology, physiology, genetics, tissue culture and other basic discipline researches. In recent years, Japanese quail (Cotzrrnix cotzlrnix), because of its short reproduction time (six weelts to sexual maturity) and tlie ease with which it can be raised, is also widely used. A reasonably coiiiplete ltaryotype of the domestic fowl has been described by Shoffner and Icrishan (1965) and Owen (1965). Talluri and Vegni (1965) have described the karyotype of the Coturnis quail. This report presents he ltaryotype of the chicken-quail hybrid with evidence for differential mortality of the female embryos.
