A size-dependent catalytic activity: The hydrogenation of anthracene in aqueous micellar solutions at room temperature is catalyzed by ionic-surfactant-protected gold nanoparticles with well-controlled particle sizes (see picture). The size-dependent catalysis of Au nanoparticles on the hydrogenation shows an optimal activity at particle sizes of 3 to 5 nm.
