Long-Term Treatment With <i> N ^ω </i> -Nitro- <scp>l</scp> -Arginine Methyl Ester Causes Arteriosclerotic Coronary Lesions in Endothelial Nitric Oxide Synthase-Deficient Mice

Abstract

These results provide the first direct evidence that the long-term vascular effects of l-NAME are not mediated by simple inhibition of endothelial NO synthesis. Direct upregulation of local ACE and increased oxidative stress appear to be involved in the long-term vascular effects of l-NAME in vivo.
