A 30 MJ Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage system will be installed in 1982 in Tacoma, WA, to act as an alternate means of transmission line stabilization. This will be the first use of superconductivity in the electric utility industry. The conductor has been fully tested electrically and mechanically, all major components of the electrical, control, and cryogenic systems have been received, coil assembly is complete, and the epoxy-fiberglass dewar is being purchased.
