Summary The effect of 5-azacytidine on the metabolism of phytohemagglutinin-stimulated horse lymphocytes and cultured mouse L929 cells has been investigated. No significant differences have been found between the two cell types. The effects of 5-azacytidine become irreversible after 1 hr of treatment and, at this time, protein synthesis is dramatically inhibited. Subsequently, inhibition of RNA and DNA synthesis occurs.
