Abstract The 13 C chemical shifts of a series of isoflavones having hydroxy, acetoxy, methoxy and methylenedioxy substituents are compared. Some general relationships between substitution patterns and chemical shifts, useful for the identification of naturally occurring isoflavones, are outlined.
