A Zr-cluster-based cationic metal–organic framework has been realized for highly efficient removal of Cr<sub>2</sub>O<sub>7</sub><sup>2−</sup> from aqueous solutions with the highest adsorbed amount of 245 mg g<sup>−1</sup> ever reported.
