Abstract

Eighteen cases of inguinal hernia were investigated by herniography. Nine of these are presented to demonstrate the type of information available from this technique. The demonstration of clinically elusive hernias and of clinically unsuspected contralateral hernial sacs is of major importance. False negative examinations can occur when the hernia is not reduced before the examination, as the hernia may obstruct the opening of the hernial sac. Herniography may be useful in deciding whether to follow the progress of a hernial sac or to undertake surgical correction.
