First-Trimester Plasmodium falciparum Infections Display a Typical “Placental” Phenotype

Abstract

Our data suggest that the placental tropism of P. falciparum is already established in the first trimester of pregnancy, with consequent implications for the development of the pathology associated with placental malaria.
