Contrary to published results obtained with larger Homarus americanus, bilateral eyestalk ablation induces precocious molting in lobsters about 60 mm carapace length. The observed "acceleration" appears to result from the prevention or termination of a D 0 development plateau. However, limb regeneration in eyestalkless lobsters appears to be inhibited.
