Interleaver design for turbo codes

Abstract

A new type of interleaver for rate 1/2 turbo codes is designed which allows each information bit to be associated with its own coded bit. In this way the correction capability of the code is uniformly distributed over all information bits. This provides twice the performance over a block interleaver.
