A series of new triphenylamine-containing aromatic poly(amine- imide)s with high molecular weights were prepared either by a conventional two-step process starting from N,N′-bis(4-aminophenyl)-N,N′-diphenyl-1,4-phenylenediamine with various aromatic tetracarboxylic dianhydrides or by the one-step thioanhydride method from the diamine with aromatic tetracarboxylic dithioanhydrides. All the poly(amine-imide)s were amorphous and had high thermal stability associated with relatively high glass-transition temperatures of 274–332 °C.
