The results of deoxyribonucleic acid-deoxyribonucleic acid homology studies and an investigation of physiological properties confirmed the relationship of Streptococcus morbillorum and Gemella haemolysans at the genus level. This is in accord with previously reported data from 16S ribonucleic acid cataloging. The results of this study, together with previously described chemotaxonomic and biochemical properties, indicate that S. morbillorum should be transferred to the genus Gemella as Gemella morbillorum comb. nov.
