This paper discusses the increasing channel degradation being experienced in many urbanizing area streams. Increased flooding caused by intensive land development is related to stream erosion through bed load transport theory. Analysis of these relationships leads to conclusions as to channel design criteria. Current design criteria for culverts crossing such streams should be modified.
