The alkaloid, vincaleukoblastine, produced C-mitosis in cells of L1210 ascites tumor and in normal rat bone marrow in vivo . The affected cells were arrested in metaphase, resulting in the complete disappearance of post-metaphase. Prophase stages were not affected. The effect of VLB in producing metaphase arrest could be modified by the administration of glutamic acid or tryptophan.
