Different shading devices allowing for the same degree of solar protection and providing a wide scatter reflection, are installed in scale models and tested in relation to their potential use as daylighting systems, during two months of the characteristic Spanish hot summer season. Performance relating illuminance levels and illuminance uniformity is assesed by comparison with those obtained in a reference model. The relation between horizontal illuminances in the models and external horizontal global illuminances (rather than diffuse or direct) is selected to evaluate the “daylighting efficacy” of the systems.
