AlEu and AlYb Donor–Acceptor Bonds

Abstract

Opposites attract: The compounds [(η5-C5Me5)2LnAl(η5-C5Me5)] (Ln=Eu, Yb; see scheme) represent the first compounds with a bond between aluminum and a 4f metal. The bonds are predominantly electrostatic with insignificant charge-transfer and covalent contributions.
