A severe generalized hypersensitivity reaction with toxic erythema, cholestatic jaundice and eosinophilia complicated by bronchopneumonia and renal failure with fatal outcome is described in a sixty-seven-year-old male diabetic patient treated with the recently introduced sulfonylurea, glibenclamide. Autopsy findings included the demonstration of a necrotizing angiitis with associated granulomatous changes in the spleen and kidneys.
