In an investigation of some machine-setting variables in the friction-twist-draw- texturing process, the effects of primary heater temperature, center disc spacing, draw ratio, and D/Y ratio on the resultant textured yarn properties are presented. Some of the first-order interactions between the heater temperature and disc spacing, draw ratio and D/Y ratio, and heater temperature and draw ratio, are found to have significant effects on the yarn bulk and dye uptake. The yarn properties included in the investigation are crimp contraction, dye uptake, linear density, critical dissolution time in phenol, density, tenacity, elongation, and modulus.
