Fe-Ta-N films have high saturation magnetization 4πMs (14-17kG), high permeability (>3000 at 10MHz), high Vickers hardness (>900) and are expected to be high density magnetic recording head core materials for high coercivity media, such as metal tapes. Yet, few reports have been published on Fe-Ta-N alloy video head application in contact with the tapes at high relative velocity. The authors have developed laminated film video heads using the Fe-Ta-N films. This paper reports the read-write and wear characteristics for the heads.
