Wavelength‐dispersive X‐ray analysis and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy were used to determine the presence of zerovalent nickel, chromium, and iron in the glass of a lithia‐alumina‐silica‐based glass/Inconel 718 seal. Evidence for the resultant diffusion of these atoms from the Inconel substrate into the glass network is presented.
