The longest Cn bridge known between two single metal centers is found in the bimetallic complex 1. The structure of 1 is best described by the cumulene resonance form +ReCCCCCMn. A very intense rhenium-to-manganese charge transfer band at 480 nm (ϵ = 60 500M−1 cm−1) suggests that the C5 ligand acts as a “molecular wire”. Counterion: BF
