Intestinal biofilms provide a potential reservoir for C. difficile spore persistence, possibly facilitating their dispersal into the gut lumen after therapeutic intervention, leading to recurrent infection. Therapeutic options for CDI could have increased efficacy if they are more effective against sessile C. difficile.
