Novel chain extensions of [{Re*}CCCCH] ({Re*} = (η5-C5Me5)Re(NO)(PPh3)) with alkyne or diyne building blocks lead to rhenium-capped oligomers of up to 20 sp carbon atoms (shown on the right, n = 6, 8, 10). This methodology allows, for the first time, access to such materials with a homogeneous chain length.
