Abstract

Abstract The effect of urethral catheters upon voiding parameters has been studied in eight patients. Each patient was studied sequentially with catheter sizes 3 1/2, 5, 8, and 10 F. Catheter free flow measurements are done before and after instrumentation. No significant changes were seen with varying catheter sizes if there was no clinical obstruction (two patients). In six patients with bladder outlet obstruction, flow diminished and resistance measurements increased with increasingly larger catheters.
