Albumin dialysis with the first generation of MARS enables the removal of albumin bound and water soluble toxins. Unwanted side-effects and changes in laboratory tests are comparable to conventional haemodialysis (drop of platelets and prolongation of coagulation tests). The elimination of albumin bound and water soluble substances was accompanied by an improvement of clinical status.
