A high-frequency high-power link for the battery charger interface to electric vehicles (EVs) opens many converter and control options. The charger topology selection method is presented, recognizing unique EV requirements, EV infrastructure infancy, device technology, and compatibility with future developments. Use of the coaxial winding transformer as the inductive interface device ensures the leakage inductance does not constrain design choices. Design trade-offs and laboratory data are included.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">></ETX>
