The perfect host? A simple phosphine–oxide host, bis{2-[di(phenyl)phosphino]phenyl}ether oxide (DPEPO) with a high triplet energy level (2.995 eV), was chosen to prove an effective strategy for multi-insulating linkage of highly efficient hosts of blue electrophosphorescence. The structure, photophysical properties, molecular orbitals, and device performance were investigated (see graphic; FMO=frontier molecular orbital).
