N 1953, Baker and Jacquette1 described an apparently new disease of unknown etiology in broilers and named it hemorrhagic syndrome, from the characteristic hemorrhages in various tissues. Later, Gray et al.,17 Washko and Mushett,27 Covers and co-workers,6 and others described the clinical, hematologic, and pathologic findings of this syndrome in broilers raised under field conditions, although the cause remained unknown.
