A new donor–acceptor copolymer, poly(2,5-(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-<italic>alt</italic>-2,7-(9,9-dioctylfluorene) copolymer with high optical limiting efficiency (0.47 GW cm<sup>−2</sup>) and photoconductivity (at 75 V μm<sup>−1</sup>, the photosensitivity was 289 742).
