1,2,9,10,17,18‐Hexasila[2.2.2](1,3,5)cyclophane, a Cage‐like Phane Containing Three Si–Si Units

Abstract

The one-step synthesis of the title compound 2 was achieved by coupling the two “layers” 1 with sodium in the presence of 18-crown-6. The yield is very small–as is true of most syntheses in this area–but enough 1 could be prepared to characterize it completely by X-ray structure analysis.
