Experience in the operation of various commercial cellular communication systems led to the consideration of cellular repeaters, of boosters, as a tool for cost-effectively solving certain coverage problems. Analysis of potential applications resulted in the formulation of design specifications and subsequent development of a successful design with adequate selectivity to prevent interference with competitive carriers.
